Researcher, Alex Amling, was in Beirut to participate in a three-day workshop organized by UN Women Geneva. Alex was on a panel discussing lessons learned from women’s leadership in conflict contexts to provide Syrian women’s organizations with ideas and fresh perspectives. OEF Research joined two other international organizations that explored women’s roles in peace negotiations and peace processes in Colombia, the Philippines, Serbia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Northern Ireland. The team focusing on Syria is supporting efforts to build a Syrian women’s movement that can tackle a variety of issues on peace and security in Syria. Some of the women who were present are also members of the Syrian Women Advisory Board to the UN Special Envoy to Syria. The workshop is providing technical guidance to start formulating and designing strategies for focus areas and priorities as part of a series of subsequent workshops.
