On April 11, Research Associate Victor Odundo Owuor presented his work on businesses in fragile states at the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) in Washington, DC. Dr. Owuor's study is based on field research in South Sudan, Somaliland, and the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and highlights how businesses have continued to conduct affairs in spite of conditions that include weak institutions and lack of trust in government. Findings emphasize that the influence and conduct of the business community can help overcome the problems encountered in fragile states. The findings were discussed by representatives of the business community interviewed in the study, the World Bank, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and more.
