Tsinghua University in Beijing China is hosting a launch of the report “Why Govern?” and the book of the same name edited by former OEF Research Fellow Amitav Acharya. This report is based on a conference held in 2014 at American University to explore why states choose to participate in global governance systems. Based on contributions from a number of scholars and practitioners, the report and the book look at the strategic, functional, and normative reasons why governments choose to join global systems. The Schwarzman College of Tsinghu University is hosting a panel discussion including remarks by the Ambassador of Chile to the People’s Republic of China, the Dean of the School of International Studies at Peking University, Amitav Acharya, and Conor Seyle of OEF Research.
